Kris and Monique had tremendous impacts on each other's lives. Who gained the most from their relationship?

  1. Kris gained the most from the relationship between herself and monique. Kris got to learn how to survive on very little, and to see how they truly lived in third world countries and that there were many things she could do, and did to help them become a stronger people.

  2. Although Kris and Monique’s lives are both impacted from their friendship, Kris gaines the most from the experience. Kris learns about life in Africa and how different it is from her life. Monique’s family situation shows Kris how difficult marriage is and how burdonsome life can be for an African woman. She learns that women are sexually mistreated but do not know any better. Kris is with Monique to assist her however, Monique teaches Kris just as much as Kris teaches her. It is surprising for Kris to see how difficult living is in a village like Monique’s. Everyone survives on so little and surroundings are the opposite of what Kris is used to. She is envious of Monique because she stays strong and focused no matter what is occuring. Kris’s life is truly impacted by Monique and when Monique dies Kris is compelled to write this novel to allow the reader to learn the many lessons that she has learned from Monique.

I believe Kris gained the most between Her relationship with Monique. Through her time in Africa Kris learns how hard life truly can be. All the time she sees the strength Monique has helping the women of Africa with their children instead of just helping herself. This strength inspires Kris to help Monique. Through out her time in Africa Kris leanrs to live in the harsh dirty conditions of Africa. Even getting girardeau. Kris also sees Monique's srength to not be pushed around. Monique has a boyfriend, but this is not allowed because she is already married. On the other hand its completly acceptable for her husband to have another girlfriend. Kris gains the physical, mental, and emotional strength from the strength Monique resonates everyday just to survive.

  4. Personally, I think that Kris gained the most from her relationship with Monique. Kris grew up in the United States which is a privileged and economically stable country compared to Mali. Kris observes how people in Africa survive without the basic ammnetites people in America take for granted. When Kris goes to Mali, she sees the hard work Monique puts in her everyday life and the little rewards she receives. In the end, Kris learns from the strength and devotion that Monique displays.

  5. I believe Kris has learned the most from her experience with Monique. Seeing Monique help every woman who asks her in Africa. Kris sees the battles Monique conquers everyday and the power to help others. through this power Kris learns about the experience of women's fights for their children and the daily struggles they go through. How she can empower herself to become a stronger woman.

  6. Throughout Kris's time in Mali both Monique and Kris grow and learn from each other. However I think that Kris gains the most from their relationship. Kris learns of the everyday struggles that women and men face in third world countries. Growing up in America Kris was sheltered from the pain and hunger that the people of Africa face. When she goes over to Mali Kris sees how hard Monique works helping all of the people in her village for very little in return. Monique was a very important person in her village but no one treated her that way. Kris learned that even though America has equal rights that not all countries have followed there lead. Also Kris is a vegetarian and does not see why people in the USA eat meat but coming to Mali she sees the necesity of it because they have no other source of food. Kris gains the most from her friendship with Monique because she takes so much insight with her back to the US.

  7. In my opinion, I think that Kris has gained the most from her relationship with Monique. Kris is able to see how different life is like in Mali compared to life in America; where she grew up. Furthermore, Kris sees Monique's husband, Francois, treat Monique without any respect; which shows Kris how poorly African women are treated. This also causes Kris to gain more self respect. No matter what struggles Monique goes through on a daily basis, she still finds the power to keep going and live her life to the fullest extent. This has an impact on Kris in that she gains the power and motivation that Monique has to life her life making every day count and putting her best effort into everything she does. Finally, from being with Monique, Kris has learned not to take anything for granted and to be grateful for everything she has. Ultimately, Kris has gained the most out of her relationship with Monique.

  8. I believe that Kris has gained the most from her relationship with Monique. Comming from America, Kris is used to women being equal to men. Yet, in Mali it is so defferent. The men are of further more importance then the women. Even though the women may work twice as hard compared to the men, they are still of lower importance. The men show very little appreciation towards the women for all that they do which is strange to Kris considering in America they are worshipped for being great. Kris learns in her time in Mali to be independent. She learns that women are just as powerful as men are and should not be taken advantage of. Kris also gains strength and courage in her experiences with Monique.

  9. I think that Kris gained more from the relationship because she got to see a culture from a new perspective. She got to see how the equality is different and being a woman in that country she was deemed as different.

  10. I believe that Kris gained more from Monique. Monique exposed Kris to so much troubles from a health point of view. Kris saw so many women give birth where it was dangerous, and women and children who were have trouble with their health from their malnutrition. Kris saw children with severe malnutrition, where they were transfered too quickly from milk to solid food, that they couldn't handle it and many died from it. If Kris did not stay with Monique, she would not have got the experience of seeing the side of helath, that is rarely seen in the United States.

  11. I believe that Kris Learned the most because since she is from America, she is able to view and see the childbirth of the children in Africa. Kris Also gets to see how the children of Africa are so skinny and barely get three meals a day as a child in America would. Kris also gets to visually see the difference of the male and female status. She sees the women are only considered property of the male. Finally Kris is the one who gains the most trhought becuase she is allowed to experience the life that the african people live.

  12. In my opinion it was Kris who gained the most. Kris had the oppertunity to see the strength of other women, who were faced with the reality of giving birth in impovished conditons. Something she herself could not even begin to fathom, let alone go through herself.

  13. In my opinion, Kris gained the most from the relationship because she realized how different things are in Africa rather than America. Kris saw the harsh conditions and dirty atmosphere in Mali. In Africa, she sees that women are treated much differently and the males are superior to them. From being in Africa, she learns to not take anything for granted.

  14. In my opinion, Kris is the one that gained the most from her journey in Africa with Monique. Once she arrived in Africa, she gained a more broad view of the world by experiencing some of the things she did with Monique. She had the chance to see how dangerous it was to have a child over in Africa, when Monique was already familiar with the danger in having a child. Kris also got to see a different way of life over in Africa, and how poverty had taken over most of the region she was in. This gave Kris an even deeper understanding of the world, and at the same time gave her a deeper appreciation for the life she lived back in the United States.

  15. In my opinion, Kris benefitted most in the relationship because she was 1. able to learn about child birth from monique by assisting her in the clinic, 2. learned of many new traditions and culture, and 3. saw a new country, which monique did not get to do.
